An Overview of Celebrity Silhouette

Having recently returned from an Iceland Intensive cruise onboard Celebrity Silhouette, I want to share a detailed look at what makes this Solstice Class ship so special. As the fourth vessel in Celebrity Cruises renowned Solstice Class, Celebrity Silhouette accommodates 2,886 guests at double occupancy, with a total maximum capacity of 3,475 guests.

Guest Demographics

The demographic was diverse with different age groups onboard. I saw lots of empty nesters and retirees. I also spoke with guests who had school-aged children or a younger couple. Everybody felt welcome. There were a few multigenerational families on this cruise as cruising in Iceland is a lot easier than having to switch hotels by doing a group tour. The atmosphere onboard was remarkably warm and social. Whether chatting with guests at the table next to us at dinner, enjoying evening shows, or gathering on deck to spot whales, connecting with fellow travelers was easy. Guests joined from all over the world, including the United States, the UK, Scotland, Germany, the Netherlands, and Australia. While many guests were seasoned travelers and doing back to back cruises, there were just as many who were first time cruisers. I appreciate that mix of cruise guests.

What Is Different About Celebrity

What distinguishes Celebrity Cruises from other cruise lines? Two things. While Celebrity is not luxury, it is an elevated experience.  They brand themselves as elevated premium. Just like my cruise onboard Celebrity Reflection, the staff were always very welcoming. You will see a few children onboard, and those that you see are well traveled.  Please note that ships in the Celebrity fleet do not have the slides, zip line, or roller coasters like other cruise lines have. They do have a kids club that is STEM focused and kids will have more individual attention. Bonus: On the top deck, they have the lawn club.  Celebrity Silhouette was the first ship to have a real grass lawn onboard.

Dining Onboard

Dining options across Celebrity Silhouette are outstanding.

For breakfast I ordered room service, ate at Blu, and dined at Oceanview Café which is the complimentary buffet. While room service was convenient, breakfast at Blu was my favorite due to the personalized service and fresh menu options.

For lunch I dined at both Oceanview Café and Spa Café. Usually, I dineed at Oceanview café as there are so many options to choose from. I also loved that you could have ice cream for both lunch and dinner.  

For this cruise I had dinner every night at Blu. This restaurant is reserved for travelers who stay in an Aqua suite.  The service here was impeccable. Even the hostess knew our names when we arrived. Because the food at Blu is so elevated, booking separate specialty dining felt entirely unnecessary.

Entertainment

On Broadway was my favorite of all the entertainment options. Celebrity has a cast of 4 singers, numerous dancers, and 4 aerialists. Celebrity places an emphasis on live musicians so there is a live band providing the music.  Main Theater shows did not require reservations, and I always found it easy to find my preferred seat.

There is a casino onboard to enjoy.

Cabins

My AquaClass stateroom provided a comfortable retreat with a private balcony, premium bedding, spa shower amenities, and full access to the Persian Garden thermal suite. I do wish there were more outlets but this was fixed in the Edge class series of ships that were built after this one.

Crowds

The ship did not feel crowded at all. Persian Garden (where the thermal chairs are) had more guests in the afternoon in port days but if you waited 10 minutes or so you could find a chair to relax in. I could always find a chair by the outdoor pool. The Solarium would get crowded on sea days since it was warmer there.
