It is always nice to bring home a souvenir (or a few souvenirs) from your vacation. You can find pressed pennies at theme parks and attractions around the US. Why? They are small, and pressed pennies are one of the less expensive souvenirs you can cherish from your vacation. The pressed penny machines at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort have multiple designs/characters at the various machines so it makes it easy for everybody in your family to bring home a different design.
Pressed pennies can be traced over 200 years ago to Austria where they were made by a Viennese jeweler. Did you know that the first pressed penny in the US in 1983 at the Chicago World’s Columbian Exposition. To make it, a pressed penny machine has two rollers. One roller will elongate the penny and the other roller will add the engraving to it. Fun fact: a pressed penny is also called an elongated coin.
